How to upload and access files

"Would you be able to recommend a beginners guide as to how to make the most of the server space.  The type of question I am slightly confused with is:

How to load images onto  your servers  ----
Once uploaded how do I find out the link to use ? "

Your biggest question would appear to be, what is ftp? And how can I use it?

FTP or File Transfer Protocol, usually using port 21 for standard connections or 22 for SFTP, ie. Secure File Transfer Protocol. I hope the name is self explanatory. Your ftp login details will be the same as the detail setup by the system on product registration.

How do you use it? Well I use a free program called filezilla, available for download, http://filezilla-project.org/download.php , once installed open/start the program, choose the “File” Tab, and then “Site Manager”. Choose the “New Site” button, and enter the ftp information under “General” Section of the “Site Manager”, ie. Host will be your ip address (given upon account registration), port 21, login type is Normal and then your user name and password given with registration. “Connect”, if all is correct, you should now be logged into the FTP server.

There are two main panes/panels, on the left is your local computer’s files and folders and on the right your website’s files and folders, you can drag and drop files and folders between these two panels. The important thing now is to open your webserver folder “public_html”, this is the root folder that is visible to the public, ie www.yourdomain.com/image.jpg, if you where to create  a folder within this public folder, ie. public_html/new_Folder/ and you placed your image within, you would access it via www.yourdomain.com/new_Folder/image.jpg (case sensitive).

Don’t be afraid to ask any question, sometimes the quickest way to an answer is to give me a call directly, 02074736129.

Kind Regards
